What is NEBOSH?

NEBOSH is the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health. NEBOSH is an independent examining board which was founded in 1979.

As an examination board, NEBOSH publishes syllabuses which accredited training centres (such as Kawns Safety Services Ltd) offer as programmes of study.

NEBOSH qualifications are widely acknowledged throughout industry in the UK and overseas.

How should I plan my studies?

As there is considerable flexibility in the modes of study for the NEBOSH Level three Certificates. KSS Ltd run part-time day and evening courses, full-time block release courses and open/distance learning courses in accordance with the mode/s of study that are covered by the accreditation by NEBOSH. Courses can also organise in-house courses to meet the needs of individual employers.

The NEBOSH Level three Certificates consists of three units, each separately assessed. Students may choose to take all of the units at the same time or at different times. On successful completion of each of the units a Unit Certificate will be issued. However, in order to achieve the NEBOSH Level three Certificate qualifications, students will need to pass all of the three/four units within a five-year period.

The level three awards follow a similar process to gain full certification and can be inter-twined.

What is the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate?

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate has been divided into 3 Modules:

NGC1 Management of health and safety and NCC2 Controlling workplace hazards

The NEBOSH National Construction Certificate is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) at Level 3 in the National Qualifications Framework. The qualification is also designated as the NEBOSH Level 3 National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety, but most people refer to it as the NEBOSH Construction Certificate. The qualification reflects the management model specified in the Health and Safety Executive's guide to the management of occupational health and safety (HSG65).

This qualification is an ideal first step towards a career in occupational health and safety within the construction, or it can provide a very useful qualification for those who manage or who have a responsibility to safety in the construction industry no matter what their discipline.

The NEBOSH NCC has undergone amendment (in July 2007) in order to facilitate delivery and examination in a 'unitised' format. The qualification now comprises three 'units', two theory based and a practical unit.

We are able to offer learning modules which cover all of the theory units in conjunction with the recommended textbook (see side panel):

How can I sit the NEBOSH Examination?

The NEBOSH National General Certificate has been divided into 3 Modules:
NGC 1 and NCC2 examinations consist of written papers of two hours duration. During the online course you will be asked to attempt several questions styled on those in recent examinations. You will be given feedback by your tutor with regard to the answers you provide. In this way, we give one-to-one support to help you build towards your actual examinations, both in terms of subject knowledge and NEBOSH examination technique.

KSS Ltd is a NEBOSH training and examination centre. They provide examinations for the Construction Certificate in line with the NEBOSH National examination days which occur each year in March, June, September and December. Follow this link to see the exact NEBOSH examination dates. Please note that there are very strict rules regarding application cut off dates. Application forms can be obtained from KSS Ltd, for their examinations only.  The examination fees of £45 are included in the module fee.

NCC3 (Health and Safety Practical Application) is not normally offered independently of the taught elements. Students will normally be required to complete the NGC3 assessment within 14 days of sitting the examination for Units NGC1 and/or NCC2.

NCC3 Health and safety practical application and has no syllabus content associated with it, but tests the application of knowledge acquired in the study of the NGC1 & NCC2. It examines a candidate’s application of knowledge in the first instance to identify hazards, evaluate risk and control and secondly to report to management in a way that is persuasive towards management action to improve standards.

Registration

Once you have booked onto the online course you will be sent a package with details of what you must do with regards to registration; you must however be a registered student through either the regular course structure or the online facility.  As you will be working at your own pace we cannot predict when you will take the examination.  Here are some considerations for planning

The course is 160 hours in duration.  That’s approximately 10 hours per week; you may of course take less than this.

You should plan your course to coincide with the national examination dates in March, June, September and December each year (these differ depending on the course). There is a cut off date for each examination for registration and this is 6 weeks prior to the exam dates. Registration is normally required up to six weeks before the examination, but for an additional escalating fee you can register up to 14 days from cut off. Registration has to be at NEBOSH by the cut off date.

External registration

You may register as an external student and National examinations will cost £90 for all three module NGC 1, NCC 2, & NCC3 and registering through Kawns will cost an additional £50 + vat. You are also strongly advised to attend an examination workshop for each of the modules.

Examination preparation workshops
