How it Works
When you enrol on one of our online courses you will be provided with:
- access information to enable you to login to our virtual learning environment (active after 5 working days of enrolment - please see our terms and conditions)
- a learning and assessment programme designed to lead you through the unit syllabus
- the support of an online tutor who will monitor your progress, grade your assignments and provide feedback information using a variety of communication techniques such as forums, chat rooms (on selected units only), etc.
In order to use LearnOn-Line.co.uk you must have:
- a current/valid external email account
- access to the Internet, ideally via a broadband connection
- access to a Word Processor application
Learning and assessment programmes (courses) are designed on a topic basis and should be worked on in the topic order set out in the programme. Each topic consists of a series of learning activities. These may be in the form of:
- slides containing bullet point references
- text passages
- documents and leaflets issued by external organisations
- hyperlinks to external web sites
- sound/movie snippets
On-course assessment is in the form of:
- questions linked to progress points in the course
- quizzes and tests
- written assignments - which require word processed responses that are uploaded to the system for assessment by an online tutor.
The virtual learning environment which houses our learning and assessment programmes enables online tutors to track candidate usage and performance whilst they are studying. Tutors are therefore aware of candidate progress and performance throughout and can advise on areas of weakness if needed.
Candidate forums are a feature of our courses. These provide a means of collective learning and the swapping of experiences and expertise.
Some courses - e.g. NEBSOH - require external examinations to be taken in order to achieve formal recognition. Kawns Safety Services Ltd. are accredited to offer external examinations and would be pleased to arrange this for you.
Obviously, online learning is not everyone's cup-of-tea, but it does provide a number of key advantages - such as:
- learning at your own pace at home or in the workplace
- one-to-one support and feedback on your assessed work
- self-testing using the online quizzes which form part of a learning and assessment programme
- no traveling time* (*except external examinations)
- no travel costs* (this can be a significant expense when attending a college programme)
- competitive course fees (generally significantly cheaper than traditional courses)
